Board President David Chiu and Supervisors Carmen Chu and Eric Mar were notified by the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) that an investigation has opened on whether they received gifts that exceed the statutory gift limit or failed to disclose gifts.

The three notifications, dated February 11, do not provide any details on the donor or the amount of the gifts, although state law limited gifts to $420 for 2010. FPPC officials told CitiReport that details have to wait until the investigation is completed.

Meanwhile the City and County of San Francisco also was put on notice by the FPPC that an investigation has opened following a referral from the California Secretary of State that the City failed to disclose its lobbying activities for the quarter July 1, 2010 through September 30, 2010. According to the FPPC notification, the Secretary of State referred the matter to the FPPC after San Francisco failed to respond to letters sent November 19 and December 8, 2010 when Gavin Newsom was mayor.

The San Francisco African American Chamber of Commerce was sent a similar complaint by the FPPC following a referral from the Secretary of State.
